I am using the Redhorse Horner violin and a Recording King openback banjo (highly stuffed with the finest New Zealand wool) tuned to mountain model or mountain minor ( the B string is tuned down to A sharp).

Chuck,

Greasy Coat sounds real good on your recording! A nice tune to listen to while sipping a morning cup of coffee.

What do you have the fiddle tuning as (low - hi)?

Standard tuning believe or not, Brother Shayne. Like I said, the banjo is tuned to Mountain Modal. Mountain Modal only works at altitudes above 3600 feet. At altitude under 3600, you would have to use Mountain Minor. It has something to do with global warming and that new math.

Chuck, if you tuned your B string down to C it would have been a mighty long trip - more like subterranean minor.

OMG ! ! ! ! to funny... That darn new math!

Doug,

I just did that you see if you would notice........yeah right.

Thanks Doug, I made the correction. The B string is tuned to A sharp, not C.

Chuck - Now I'm completely confused! What I meant was that you probably tuned your B string up to C for "mountain modal" tuning gDGCD, not down (or in this case aEADE). I guess that's what I'd do for this tune.
BTW - I've torn my self away from Jimmy Martin long enough to actually listen to this. Very nice and mellow. I'm no good at deciphering tunings from listening though.

Trust me, you are dealing with an idiot today(me).

When I detuned this AM, I did it by ear. I am not sure if I have ever noticed what I was tuning to. From what the tuner read, I detuned to A sharp. Sorry to cause so much confusion and thank you for noticing and caring enough to let me know, Doug.

Thank you also for the compliment. I like mellow!!
