Gary (Pick1) taught me The Old Spinning Wheel last night at our Monday evening picking party with our buddy Sam. I am recording this beautiful tune here on a fiddle Gary (Pick1) just completed.

This fiddle has a very nice mellow tone using Englemann spruce.

...ditto one of my fav's also. There is an old timer I know who picks the banjo with his fingernails (2-finger style) and does the most amazingly beautiful version of The Old Spinning Wheel.

Yeah: Doesn't anybody sing anymore. A few years back somebody called me a "song fiddler" and I guess that is really the best description of my playing. I grew up playing with my parents' singing,taking a break every now and then on a verse. While I do love hearing a good tune on the fiddle(good job Chuck) you'll pretty much hear singing on my sound posts(did I say sound posts?). "There's An Old Spinning Wheel In The Parlour" is a classic I grew up with but ,for the world of me,can't remember the words.. Eric

Wellllll, I just did a web search for "words to old spinning wheel in the parlor" and BAM there it was! Dont know how to copy and paste yet or post a sample of my playing (a fact which all here should be greatful!)) or a whole lot of other stuff I should know how to do (pictures comming Chuck!) This song is not as old as you might think. It was written in 1933 by Billy Hill, so you won't find the sheet music in any of the major collections online because of copyright. You can hear the original, cornball recording by Ray Noble here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=augW_Tb99gg

Loy: I need to send both you and Fiddler Di the Kansas Fiddle Story. I need to write a booklength blog on my trip to Tennessee and then maybe I'll put story on a blog too. Never have done a blog but,having swung a blacksmith hammer for 25 years naturally prepared my for expert computer usage. That computer don't scare ME(yeah it does)!!!!

I found this tune on a James Alan Shelton album. I played it for my 83 year old uncle and he began singing the lyrics. I thought it was a new tune but uncle said it was popular when he was a kid. Thanks again for recording with my latest. You make it sound good.
