The Violin Beautiful - Posted - 05/20/2023: 17:05:48
This is a rather interesting old German violin that’s not at all a run-of-the-mill commercial fiddle. It’s full of character with an endearingly rustic scroll and tool marks that tell a story about how it was made. It was loved by its last owner for the majority of his life and looking for is next devoted player.
The label is not accurate, but it’s not too hard to see why someone passed it off as a violin by that maker. Just to be certain that it was in fact a German violin I sought the opinion of one of the premier violin experts in the US, who drew the same conclusion.
It has a warm tone. If one wanted to put more of an edge on it, a higher-tension string set could add to its focus at the sacrifice of some richness and depth.
