At least I think I want Wittners..lol
Any advice on best place to buy....needing one that holds loop and ball ends. Black preferably. Why would I need Wide? Anyone?

Wittner's wide tuners are intended for wider synthetic or gut strings. The regular tuners are intended for more narrow steel or rope core strings.
Ideally you would buy them from a local shop so you could exchange them if necessary. I'm lucky in that a major retailer (Southwest Strings) is local, so it's easy me to go to their facility. Though out of laziness I do mail-order for things like strings because I don't have to drive there and they show up the next day in the mailbox.

Hopefully you know there is another brand. Perfection Pegs are also "geared". I have installed these on several of my fiddles and have no complaints. Since the ball or loop end of the string attach to the tailpiece I don't see how this would effect the choice of a tuner.

Yes, are you asking about tuners (pegs) or tailpieces with built in tuners? The ball vs loop issue is only at the tailpiece end, and I think usually only for the E string, which are usually available both ways (plus I think you can remove the ball, and I also think there are even kits to add them to loop ends).

BTW - If you are using synthetic strings you don't really need fine tuners or geared pegs, except for the steel E string. One popular option is the Hill style tuner, which only accepts loop end strings, but Wittner makes one that works with both types.

If you want fine tuning at the tailpiece, get a Wittner tailpiece rather than adding four tuners to a tailpiece. The ball-end tuners add a lot of weight and shorten the afterlength, which will not be good for the sound. Also, those tuners will scar the top badly.
If you don't like the look of the Wittner tailpiece, you can get the same ease of tuning by using a set of Wittner pegs instead. Then you can use a nice wood tailpiece and you won't need the fine tuners at the tailpiece (although most players still like a Hill E tuner for convenience and aesthetics anyway).

Just fine tuners on Tailpiece, not pegs at the box end. I like to switch from steel to synth on occasion so having something that does both is nice. The idea of buying a new tailpiece all together is sounding like a good idea. The Hill fine tuners look like a good option. Thanks for all the great advice from everyone. I will start researching all of the options. Have 3 fiddles and just obtained one from 2016 made in Romania. Wanting to sweeten it up a bit. :) None of my Fiddles is over $300 so I really do not want to pay for Geared Tuners on them. AS for synthetics and fine tuners...I know many say no Tail piece fine tuners needed but I do find them easier to get in tune than messing with the Ebony pegs.
