My 100% Belgian black Stagg Violin that I handed in at our local music store, has been overhauled , finallly.
The thing itself costed 90 euro, bow, rosin and suitcase included and I ordered it online. For a long time I forgot I still had it. Until I decided to have the guys from the local store to have a look at it.
I told them the tuning pegs were ok according to me, the problem was the fine tuners. They replaced the tailpiece with a Witnner tailpiece and finetuners.
Before I went to sleep I tuned it just on my hearing, on what I liked.
I just cannot believe the sound that is coming out of this toy violin / violin shaped object as others would call it.
What do you guys think?!

Sounds pretty good to me, especially at that price!
If my ears don't mistake me, I think I heard Maggots in the Sheep Hide. You probably broke some ground playing that on a Stagg violin.

I'm rethinking this whole elite idea on violins, recently saw a video of Tommy Jarrell (how I love this man!) testing out a stradivarius , he was not very impressed lol.

Sounds nice, Anja. I've seen videos where an accomplished violinist plays a cheap violin, factory produced and sold online, out of the box with no additional setup, and a really expensive violin. It's amazing how little difference there is in sound. I'm sure a duffer like myself could make both instruments sound incredibly mediocre, with the better instrument sounding worse. Nothing like a sensitive, responsive instrument to accentuate the flaws in your playing. For a student, assuming a decent sounding, properly setup instrument, lessons with a good instructor will make you sound better than a more expensive instrument. And practice...

Recording yourself is tough, (for me anyway). i bet it sounds even better when you are not recording yourself.

I think Mr Jarrell had trouble because of the set up, being used to a flatter bridge among other things. That fiddle sounds great as far as I'm concerned. You have it tuned up pretty nicely to.

Nice job....upgrades to a VSO is sometimes the way to go!!!! My everyday practice one is a VSO... love it :)
