Here's my first attempt at learning a fiddle tune completely by ear. I first heard this tune played by three great fiddlers at our monthly Tucson Old-Time Music Circle. Shortly after, I heard Jimmy Triplett teach it on a workshop recording from the Augusta Heritage Center. GDGD tuning. Newbie alert: sorry about the consistently bad intonation on the high G.

I took the title from the Jimmy Triplett recording, but I've also seen it as "The Creek's All Muddy And the Pond's All Dry." Anyway, around these parts, everything's all dry this time of year.

About the title, the tune is from Burl Hammons and he called it The Spring's All Muddy and the Pond's All Dry just like you call it.

An interesting Hangout crossover happened to me over the last couple of days. In Banjo Hangout, it was about the Galax lick and in Fiddle Hangout it was about Burl Hammons "The Spring's All Muddy and the Pond's All Dry". First sat down with it on the fiddle from the recording I mentioned in Fiddle Hangout. The next day, I sat down with the banjo and discovered that the first part had three Galax licks.
