So I've got this fiddle from 1978, most beautiful instrument I've ever played. The story of how I acquired it it pretty amazing, I actually saved it from a guy who was burning a bunch of old, broken violins. This one happened to be in the lot, perfect shape. Still can't understand why someone would do that, but it's besides the point.
I've played this fiddle for a while now, and I just got off the phone with Gene Ivey confirming that it is one of his - though it's not numbered. I'm gonna send him some photos just to make sure.
Anyway, I joined this forum just to find out a little more information and if anyone was interested in buying it - how much it might be worth, etc.
Thread moved to this more appropriate forum. Stephanie

I've known Gene for 30+ years. I also have one of his fiddles. He usually gets about $1000 for his fiddles lately. I don't know how they do on the resale market.

Thanks for the interest. I'm mailing some photos to gene in order to learn a bit more and to confirm its authenticity. He told me his were all numbered but this one may have slipped through. I wouldn't feel right trying to put a price on something without authenticating it first.
The string is still on the sounpost, which he said he put on when he placed them, but usually he cut them off. Doesn't affect the sound. It is a really loud and full violin, at least twice as loud as my 1905 German "Hoffman" copy.
