Hi Folks,

I decided to post a recording of this, a favorite of mine, as a fiddle/vocal arrangement.

I have been trying to add some shape to the fiddle accompaniment; unfortunately, though I had other shapes in mind, the shape of a pear seems to be what came out. It's also tough to listen to my own voice: all I can ever think of is Leo Kottke's famous self-assessment of his voice: "like goose farts on a muggy day." The difference is, Leo actually has a great voice.

I would love to hear what you think.

I played it twice & liked it both times, your a purdy accomplished player & I admire anyone who can sing & fiddle at the same time, a lot of fiddlers don,t. This is a sad song & some folks don,t like it but I always have.I,m going to sing it now I,ve got the words ,trick is how not to think of goose farts.

Good job. It sounds as though you followed someone's excellent advice and played the tune the same way as you sing it. Since your voice is your oldest musical instrument, you can sing a tune and try to phrase the tune the same way as you sing it.

Wow - a mournful tune played at the right tempo. I have heard versions of this tune that sounded like breakdowns.

Is this played in Gdae?
This is the kind of fiddling I love, beautifull.

Jonny,

.....ditto to the above comments. You have captured the essence of voice and instrument that I hear in my head! Very, very nice!

Thanks to all for the comments and kind words, I am really glad you enjoyed it. Mournful, slow songs are tough to pull off, and I feel as though I have a long way to go. Recording and posting really helps focus the mind!

Henrik: I admit I tuned down just a titch to accommodate my voice; it's probably near F#C#G#D#.
