I bought a fiddle made by Charles Roach with a bunch of fiddles last summer.  Charles was brother to Sol Roach, who was a somewhat notable, PA country fiddle maker (interesting info on Sol Roach here).  I was  happy that there were several vintage, PA-made fiddles in the collection and intended to keep them because of their PA origin, even although none of them are particularly notable other than being made in PA.



I got in contact with Charles' grandson, who is very interested in buying the fiddle.  I'd like to figure out what the fiddle is worth as an old PA fiddle, and then come up with a reasonable discount to sell to the grandson.



Any opinions on the value of this fiddle ?  Lots of pictures in this folder.

IMHO, it has very little commercial value as a violin.  Probably worth more as folk art. It's not even on the same planet as his brother's work. If I had it I would probably give it away as a wall-hanger, because I couldn't make enough on it to justify setting it up properly. In short, it's worth whatever you can get for it.



That's only an opinion, but based on quite a bit of experience. I'd be happy to be corrected.

Michael -  tnx for the opinion.  I figured that this fiddle belongs back with the family, you made that decision easier.
