If you are getting into or new to using leadsheets -
This takes a bit of familiarity/knowledge of your notes - (ear or written) and general chords -
but if you have a tune you've written - (by ear or wrote) or if at a jam there are chord/leadsheets (lyrics with chords) -
(say not played alot or new tune - and you have no idea of the melody - etc)
this is a fairly good intro for what is standard when putting chords (symbols) to a lead sheet, how to write or read them, and how you as a fiddler can utilize them for harmonies, (the chord symbol also denoting the basic harmony notes) etc -
(when you have no idea of what the tune is )
although reading will help - the chords - (and types of (major, minor. etc) are also played so that you can HEAR them)
The upshot is that it will familiarize you, if new, to what a correct Lead sheet will look like. how to use the correct chord symbol if you are writing one, and also, what common notes will be basic harmonies that you can use -
This may not be everyone's cup of tea - but for those who are stretching in that direction, it's a great little page at a time demo, and application drills)

That's a really nice tutorial - thanks! I thought analyzing the inversions was hard, but I think it may be easier if you take the trouble to get out pencil & paper, or go to a keyboard. - Carroll

Johnno - that's cool! (although I was checking out the conducting pattern drills - and laughing - my 3/4 is a bit more flamboyant - (a;though very recognizable) - but I wanted to speed all of them up! (2 many irish fiddle tnes!!!LOL!)
