Oh yeah - weather is nice.

My age is starting to catch up with me, but when things turn this nice outside, I can't stay inside. You'd think I'd know better, but I feel compelled to make work for myself that will demand my attention through winter and into spring. My favorite time to garden.

Anyone else?

This summer we had 42 days 90 degrees or above, and for the first time in my life we grew watermelons - about half a dozen big sweet Charleston Grays. Simply amazing!
Also, for the last couple years, when real frost turns the Halloween pumpkins to mush I've just scooped them up and slid them out at the edge of the "garden." This year a white punkin grew the most amazing vines - probably 50 feet wide with a couple dozen punkins, We also had a bumber crop of dozens and dozens of Cayenne pepoers.
It's finally turned cold, so I have to harvest everything, but I built a little greenhouse and I'm going to try and grow a little winter garden of greens and such.

I used to do it but this year has been my worst ever gardening year...besides trying to compress it all into a smaller than usual spot, it was always above 90 and the tomatoes were rotting before they ripened because it was so wet and hot. We were growing tomato sauce in skins. Also the raccoons were grabbing them right and left before they ripened. Yeah, you can eat fried green ones, but they always tasted like a poor imitation of squash to me. I've liked them only when I"m in the mood for them. They're ok, but I'm not crazy about them.

Then my okra just didn't grow right...everything seemed to have too much sun, heat, and rain. Plus I didn't have much time to spend with it. Then I went nuts and got a great offer for a trade in on an EV, Bolt 2027...got it really cheap...plus they paid me to get an electrician to put in the charging wire. So we had to eke out a parking spot for that, which was right where the garden was...so now there's a car sitting there...and it all just went crazy on me. But I do like that little car...fun to drive and no gas or oil changes...yay!

So I'm hoping somehow next year will be more like previous gardening years. I love cabbage and collards...Usually I've grown sweet taters all summer and have them 'bout all cured by this time. Not this year.

Anyway, great that you've got your fall stuff in and ready to go. I hope it all goes well. It was over 90 again the other day here...so seems like it doesn't wanna cool down, but we have had some cool mornings.

I'm already thinking ahead to springtime on this...but afraid I wont' be able to do much then either. All the things I like to do seem to be vanishing from my world.

Still planting. I think I'm trying to make up for the poor summer garden.

I won't bore anyone with the list, but we're going to have plenty to eat this winter (I hope).  yes

After epic rains in September we are having a September- like October. Tomatoes long since ripped out from leaf blight and fruit rot. But on the plus sides, my oriental eggplants having sat sulking in their raised beds until recently have now woken up and are producing some nice fruits. Also a Swiss chard renaissance.
