A friend is trying to start a MUCH NEEDED tradition in our neck of the woods. Just south of Memphis. It would be a real treat to play tunes with some FHO folks. Let me know if your thinking about it - I'll try to talk you into it.

I'm looking forward to us playing some more tunes! ![]()
The "report"....
Friday and Saturday day -weather was perfect. Saturday night the rain moved in / we moved out. Heavy rain all night and most of Sunday - so as much I would have love to stay, I'm glad we left when we did.
Attendance for the first event was as expected. Probably around 80 - 100 folks at the peak. The workshops were attended better than I thought they would be, mostly aimed at beginners with locals mostly leading more than instructing.
Probably more than half of the folks weren't really familiar with the old time as genre - just familiar with some of the crossover tunes (BG). But the jams were accommodating, and when OT fiddle tunes were played - they did what they could to play them. Out of necessity, it mostly bordered on slow jamming. And (to my surprise) there wasn't many attempts to steer the jam into something else.
Barry Collins showed up Saturday, and Mike Albert. Doug Webb was already there. So, the 4 of us found our "space" to get in s bit more focused OT jamming
That was a lot of fun.
Great folks running the show. I wish we had some local OT group that would take the "stage" - so folks could hear the OT music out side of a jam. And perhaps have next year's event on a different weekend - instead of Halloween. Too many other scheduled events that weekend.
I had a good time. I hope we get to do it again. Thanks for your patience.
That afternoon jam and getting to see Doug and Rhonda again made the 600-mile roundtrip worth it, even after driving through a rainstorm most of Sat night and getting home at 4am. Doug & I fiddled until about 9:30 and were the last ones out of the park.
Gotta tell y'all something about Tony: He continues to amaze me with the depth of his OT repertoire, but he can't start *anything* without pulling up the first 3 or 4 notes from audio recordings on his phone :^) He doesn't listen to any of the tune, mind you; just a couple of pickup notes and he's got it! It's crazy to me 'cause all the pickup notes sound the same, but Tony can play several hundred tunes that way.

You'd think after all this time... maybe I'll find the key.
Dout, Mike and I - together with Martha Kelly - played tunes last night. Doug was real proud that he got to meet up with you again after all those years. Were your ears burning? ![]()
It was great to play tunes with you again. I certainly look for the next opportunity. We may be headed to Florida over the next few months. Maybe... Let's stay in touch.
