Novice dabbling in double tops. When I played mando, I always like 3rds, both 1-3 and inverted 3-1. But on the fiddle, they just seem to sound like car horns. Sort of an observation, don't know if it's my fingers, my ears, or the instrument.

That 3-1 double stop is very powerful, when intonation is spot on. Good for ending a phrase, or doing variations/licks around it. I like to use it , sliding down to it from a 3#-2 double stop, for country songs.
