My violin stand has folding legs but there's no lock on them to keep them a part and also it has quite a small footprint so it's not overly stable. I worry bit that if something bumps it, it could fold up and fall over. So I 3D printed the spreader shown in the pic which both holds the legs apart and makes the overall footprint a tad larger. Came out okay. I'll print another for the back.

When the stand is in use, the lower bouts of the instrument and its weight could spread the feet, although I can’t say I’ve ever seen a stand fold up on its own. But it doesn’t do any harm to make a lock.
