Got 2 beautiful slabs from a big old beech bough that has fallen. It brought down about half a dozen birch trees an an oak or two.
Took us a season to clear up, and provided about 4 or 5 cords of fire wood, leaving the main bough in the open.
This year we managed to get the Big old ChinaSaw and its Alaskan Mill to it. My Friends /Helpers/Buddy's and myself got a couple of 10-12ft slabs about 2-3inch thick and a couple of feet or so wide from it. Going back to get some more when the weather cools off.
Should make a great table for my mates bar!!!

I just got in from clearing a blowdown. It's all the way down on the ground now and I've made some headway clearing all the brush. What a mess! I'll have to get back on it tomorrow morning when it's cooler, like I did today. It's all useless junk wood. Poplar and jackpine. Next week I'll rent a chipper and get some good out of the wood. I've got a lot of understory brush that is way out of hand.
Just slabbed the rest of the bough, (that i could access), some beautiful spalting (fungus staining) in the slabs. i got a flail mower with hammers on to sort the rest of the brash (brush?). Also does a surprisingly good job of mowing grass!
About !0 good 2 1/2 " X 2ft x 10 ft slabs, all stickered and stacked now. That China Saw and the Alaskan Mill doesn't owe me a penny now.
Beech bough brought down about a dozen other trees with it. They made good burning for 2 seasons.... Its an ill wind...etc

I had to consult YouTube to figure out what a flail mower with hammers was. City boy I guess. We lost a 150 year old burr oak last fall in a windstorm. We did get quite a bit of firewood and three coffee table sized crosscuts, but the pros did all the cutting.

Looks like a giant slab of bacon to me :-D
My neighbor has saw sawmill. He said, first you make birdhouses. Then hat trees. Then end tables. He still has a huge shed full of snickered slabs. The ash bore has cometh.
