We just found out this morning. About 1/3 of the town burned up last night. Wow. I think that makes 100% of places I've ever lived and loved destroyed by one devastating thing or another... seems nobody was killed except for one dog. So far that's all anybody knows.
It's really shocking...I always hoped to go back one day. Just sayin'...hopefully when they assess the damage more will be left standing that it looked like from the videos we saw.

Sorry to hear that. Glad there were no deaths. What town?

Never mind. I see - Williamsburg, KY. Looks like that was quite a blaze - a miracle no one was injured.

Amazing people weren't hurt too bad or killed. We know only a handful of people left there by this point, either having left the area or left this world. Tons of memories there. It's sad to see and can't help but wonder how on earth it happened. youtube.com/shorts/nHXhfUu6R7c...fvdEwnUoo

Since we left Williamsburg, the collapse of coal and the super Walmart coming in have pretty much changed the town from the way it was before. Friends have tried to describe what exactly were the boundaries of this fire and it's been hard trying to picture it because it's so different now. Since I have a YouTube for every occasion...lol...here's a YouTube with a photo of how the town looked before we moved away in search of earning a living. youtu.be/fW9WwIpcNvc?si=BmYJVD1A5J2zqVUi

Having survived a house fire when I was young, I can tell you its a horrible experience. My heart goes out to every single one in that town.

Must've been a very traumatic thing to go through, Al. I guess you've never gotten over it. I always worried about fires, throwing coal into the woodstove fires and stuff like that, but we were always pretty lucky. I think the people involved in this one are probably scrambling to find a warm place to stay and dealing with having lost everything...I hope they tell us some way to help. A lot of them lost jobs because of this too. Pretty devastating for such a huge part of a small town.

Pegs - traumatic isn't the 1/2 of it. House burned down to the very bricks, with Mom, 2 bros + me asleep on the 2nd floor. Had to rescue lil bro from hiding in his closet w/wet towel over our mouths (Thank you boy scout training). Smell of wood fires still gives me douche chills.

If they come up with a Go Fund me or other, please post, I'd contribute.

Peggy, how devastating!
Glad that nobody lost their life (sorry for the one unlucky pup). Hope everybody has a place to go…(I have relatives that lost homes in the CA wildfires and many months later they are still “bed-surfing” at other people’s homes … nobody is even close to moving back in yet …

Al and NC...those are such terrible situations. I don't think anybody truly understands it unless they have been through it themselves or know of someone.
