“Little Gal’ll Fool Me” (also known as “Little Gal’ll Fool Ya”) is an old-time fiddle reel from northeast Tennessee, most famously played by Joe Birchfield of the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers. It was recorded in 1982 and later released on their 2000 album Down Home. The tune is preserved in the Milliner-Koken Collection of American Fiddle Tunes and remains part of the Appalachian old-time repertoire.
Interesting side note - the recording was made on the “Cloudlands” label, owned by our friend Doug Dorschug (according to reports). I suspect that Doug may have been the sound engineer for the recording as well.

Another great version: Clare Milliner & Walt Koken
I learned to play this tune listening to The Lonesome Stragglers version on their “Susquehanna Waltz” CD

For those interested: I used my Samsung S25 / Edge phone for recording with the preloaded "Voice Recorder" app - there are no adjustments using the app. Push the button to record - that's it. The audio files are saved to an mp4 format by default - no choice. I opened it in Audacity. I used the default settings for compression and then normalization. Those were the only effects applied. The file was then exported and saved as mp3. Then uploaded here.
The file naming convention "G25" helps keep the files sorted in a folder by key and year recorded. Everything in the key of G stays grouped together and also sorted by year.

Kind of you to say so. Thank you.
I recorded this tune in my living room, and it was released in 1982 on LP, the first product on my (pretty short lived) record label. A few tunes were recorded live, but not this one. The CD was made from a copy tape, so the LP sound quality is a little better. Joe and Creede learned it from their father as a banjo piece, according to my liner notes (kind of weird to have to go to ebay to read my own notes for information). I spelled it "Little Gal'l Fool Me" but your way is probably more grammatically correct.
We also recorded two other Hilltoppers albums, released as cassettes - "Comin' Round the Mountain" and "Money in Both Pockets," with a slightly different group with Bill Birchfield playing fiddle, both recorded at my house.
BTW - There are a couple of tunes on my music page here with Joe playing fiddle and me on banjo, recorded at Joe and Ethel's house. "Lost John" and "Bile Them Cabbage Down."

From the link to the Hilltoppers, I came across this video of Mike Bryant playing this tune with a group: youtu.be/QYhw-KnDPWc?si=iZ-jIZEOwBVsNPKO
You can hear how it would have been a good banjo tune.

I like the this version a lot. Sounds more like a dance tune than the version I'm playing. Thanks.
And thanks for the added history. Recorded in your living room. What a hoot - I'd love to have been there. I was hoping you would share some of the details. Sure glad you did.. Thanks again Doug. Headed over to listen to the others you mentioned on your music page.
