From the Reel Time Travelers version. I don't know where they got it from.

That tune is from Ernie Carpenter's father Shelt. Ernie came from several generations of fiddlers from Braxton Co. WV. There are recordings available of him from the Augusta Heritage site. (For more great tunes, you should also hear French Carpenter. (The French Carpenter-Jenes Cottrell LP was reisused on CD 4 or 5 years ago on TriAgleFar.)
Reel Time were an adorable & energetic young band that attracted many new players to the music, but you MUST hear the inspiration. Ernie's fiddling will have the hairs standing up on the back of your neck -- esp. Yew Piney Mountain. He passed away in the late 80s, in his 80s.

Thanks Gail! Great info. I'm not a great music historian - there are SO many tunes, and some of them are very obscure so I end up getting them from a secondary source. But of course, it is always most interesting to hear the original source. BTW, I was at the Augusta Old time week this year and took Molskey's class. Wow! What a phenomenal musician.
