Well - this is both really fine fiddling and really good backup guitar playing.
Thanks for putting this up. I really enjoyed listening to it.

I'm hearing exemplary tonal quality combined with very tasteful ornamentation. This is outstanding.

I sat many a time and watched JC fiddle the double stop parts to this tune. He had extrordianary coordination because he played the melody with double stops in the third positon of this tune. It always amazed me and sat me in awe at his intonation and timing as he pulled this off. JC was a grand fiddler. I feel fortunate to have known him personally. He was always willing to help young fiddlers.

Gayle, in 1998 I was heading to the Eagle Cap Wilderness in late June and dropped by Weiser after not having been to the contest in quite a few years. When I wandered from the old high school over toward the contest, I spied a guy playing fiddle surrounded by a small crowd. He was a fabulous player, and was playing the best Ragtime Annie I had ever heard, and did some amazing double stops (see deerbrad's comment above!) that he was nice enough to demonstrate to someone who asked about them afterward. It was J.C. Broughton, and I snapped a pic of him while he was playing the tune.
Take a look here (sorry, can't make a link of it)

and who's that playing guitar?? ;-)

Thank You! Dave, J. C. was an humble man and had no idea how good he was. Those were the good old days. Gayle

Gayle, many thanks for posting the recording. On that occasion in 1998 (and various times since) I wished I had had a tape recorder, and here you have provided a better recording than I could have made. Best; Dave
