This is one of the few tunes I've learned fresh in the last couple of years, and the first one to get up to speed. Annoyingly long title! This one is unusual in that the main bowing is neither Sawshuffle nor Syncoshuffle! See the bowing threads for suspects! ;^)

Lovely tune, nice fiddling. Hey, one thing I LOVE about fiddle tunes is those long, odd & everyday-stuff-around-the-house-and-yard poetic titles. Say that title out loud: it sounds like the first 12 notes of the tune, don't it?

Nice version! I had only heard this tune off Bob Carlin's old Banging and Sawing album, with Bruce Molsky playing it. You do a nice job with it. It's one I should learn. I tend to like slightly more obscure tunes.

Nice job!
This tune comes from Luther Davis, who lived on the outskirts of Galax. He passed away in the mid-80s at nearly 100 years old--the house he lived in is still there. Alice Gerrard knows this & most of the tunes in Luther's repertoire & will be teaching his tunes as well as some from other old Galax style fiddlers in mid March at the Chestnut Creek School of the Arts in Galax.
I fiddle this one too, though I never had the bowing right :-) --am more of a banjo player.

Gail,
Thanks for the tune info-
A year or so ago I decided to make up a tune database in addition to a normal tune list, and I had a field for "source"... I started looking in the Fiddler's Companion, and the vast majority of tunes I play are from Virginia, or close enough in NC or WV that they could easily come to the Galax Festival. So here's ANOTHER one- it's odd, I never really TRIED to focus on Virginia tunes, I just seem to have a taste for them, and can pick them out of a pile of other tunes.

The main bowing seems to be Syncoshuffle. Am I misinterpreting it?
