Two weeks into attempting to teach myself classical violin. I finished Suzuki book 1 and can sight read through Suzuki book 2. This is after not playing at all in ten years and only then playing at a very basic level by ear for a little while. I started again, so we'll see how it goes. We were on vacation for two weeks, so this is after playing all day every day :) Ming Jiang Zhu 907 violin Holstein Pernambuco bow

Physicslawyer I heard your Gavotte, I think you are doing well since you are took the violin so recently! As your teacher told you a bit of pressure on the bow will help you to have better sound: the main thing for a player like you that comes to violin having played other string instrument is to work on the bow, trying to get a relaxed movement and a beautiful sound... I suggest you to get also some books by Sheila Nelson beside Suzuki, she made many violin publication and the tunes are nice to play with graduated difficulties, there is the Essential String Method (but if you are fallowing Suzuki may be very similar) but there are some book like Right from the start or Fast Forward where you can find some pretty tunes to play, I think that playing tunes is the best thing, I had hundreds of students and rarely I've used exercize... And of course since you're involved in bluegrass and old time playing play fiddletunes! Duoble stops on fiddle tunes is an exellent exercize for intonation and help you to find the correct position of the left hand fingers on the fretbord
Let us know of your improvement with violin, and don't hesitate if you have any question
best wishes!

A wonderful book, by the way, I also read it recently. Thank God I had free time. Basically, I'm studying management now, but I still plan to work in the music field, and write various materials on music. But at the university they almost kicked me out, because I had to write an article on management about a real friend. And you know, I have found such a person, and two are a real friend who recommended me an excellent service phdessay.com/a-friend-in-need-...ed-essay/ who solved all my problems ... The guys wrote me great material on the book, as well as material on the topic of friendship. And now I have a lot of free time to study music.
