A quick little recording in standard tuning. I discovered that my Pentax Optima camera can make sound recordings, which I can then import into my Mac's iTunes. It works on my machine, so this is just an attempt to see if it will upload to the Fiddle Hangout. I'm old enough to be terribly amazed by this technology. The mic in my camera has a diameter smaller than a drinking straw.

For some reason I couldn't get it to play.

Hmm... Well, I am amazed by the technology, but usually a bit befuddled by it. I've had some folks that can hear it and others that can't. Took me a while to convert it to mp3 (was originally a .wav), and I'm on a Mac. I'll see what else I can try with it. Thanks for the note, Ken

Sounds great. O.K., could you explain how you are doing this? I have a Mac and a digital camera. Sometimes I have had some short videos with music that sound halfway decent. How can I extract the music from the video and download it into my I-tunes? Thanks!

My method is not very sophisticated. On my camera, I chose the sound-only mode (after looking in the manual to see that it existed), which records sound with no image, onto my SD chip. The shutter button works as the on-off switch. After recording, put the chip in the reader which comes up on my Mac. Open the icon for the chip, and you will see the sound file in .wav format. Open iTunes. Go to "Preferences, advanced". Look at the importing menu, and choose Import using mp3 encoder. Import the sound file, change the title from its number format to a name, then drag onto your desktop where you can upload into the fiddle hangout. It's a bit iffy, and I'm sure there's a better way, but this works somewhat.

Thanks. I don't think I have sound only on my camera.

Your camera has a good mic! I'm young and still am amazed at what we can do with  technology!

Thanks, Russell, Peerke112 and playmorebluegrass. I actually lucked out with that recording. I had the camera laying on my workbench, on a soft surface, with the mic faced away from the wall, pointed towards me, about 3 feet away. The far wall was quite distant, maybe 18 feet. I have since used the camera to record my band during rehearsal. You can hear the music, and it's ok to practice with, but it's not for public consumption! Ken

I put the camera on my workbench, while sitting on a stool. Might be a couple feet, and below a bit.

What a neat tune! I really like your playing! It makes my feet tap. :-) I've been enjoying your photos, too.
