One of the simpler cross-tuned tunes I do. But I couldn't remember the title to it- but Mike Bryant could! It's Marcus Martin's Cotton Eyed Joe, but much simplified- I think hearing the similar Tater Patch triggered the memory and I half-remembered it.... and I even think I had in on my tune list as Tater Patch for a while. Might make a good version for a beginner to learn. AbEbAbEb. You think I'm weird huh??? Of COURSE you do! Well.... in the olden days, they didn't HAVE tuners. They tuned by feel, and had gut strings. AEAE probably would've busted a gut string or two. GDGD sounds rubbery bandy on the high strings.... the A string probably would have been worse if it was gut. I'm guessing going by feel and sound and what was good for their strings, they ended up in AbEbAbEb more often than not, give or take a few "cents".
