This is an Engleman top with Cumberland Plateau maple harvested in 1990 by the late Ted Davis.

Is this the same violin that you have in your profile photo? It looks like the the has a very high arch. Is the back like that also? It reminds me of my old "baroqued" fiddle. It is old, my teacher, John Tuner, says probably 18th century. It has a very highly arched back and top, very much the way your violin appears in this picture. He was also saying that this is very much like the old Stainer violins... it is an "old" design, very much a baroque design. I also used to have an old viola, with a very similar shape... the high arching. It was an old Austrian instrument, Maximillion Zacher, 1744.
I'll be interested in your comments.

Mr Horner looked at this one. His first comment was the arching but I don't think "baroqued" is in his vocabulary either. This is my fourth fiddle and I am using templates given to me by an old friend who has stopped building. At this point, I'm trying to learn sound, graduations and finishes. The Strad book by the Hills has been recommended to me, I've not read it yet. Learning from the old masters would be wonderful but I still consider myself a first grader.
