That's a good bow hold to me....looks comfy... Mine has developed into more what some folks might call a "Russian" although I just prefer to call it a "hold" lol. Is your thumb kinda under the little metal fastener thingy behind the hairs? It's what it looks like. Hope your not planning on changing it? You pull good smooth tone in your bowing, it works really good for you I think. I went back and forth between TUF and TUS ( as pogo calls it ) but I've settled on TUS...although I could bow with TUF if I wanted or needed but I think in the end the TUS allows me to control the bow better and more smoothly.

Ha...yep. Like everything else concerning this aggravating instrument, getting our bow hold to work for us is yet another mountain to climb, isn't it? I used to grab my hand all around the frog more, but reading Fiddle hangout, especially Pogo's wonderful meanderings, I've learned a lot and gradually adapted to this way, which is how I've been doing it for the past four or so years of my six year playing journey. I like my hand on top of the bow, not toward the side...my hand felt mire along the side when I tried other ways. If my hand directs the bow feeling more directly on top of the frog area, I feel the shuffles and what-nots can skip along much better. I'm guessing for long bowing this might not work as well, and more control toward the side ,ugh the work better, but I can't say for sure because long bowing is a newer thing for me and I'm not sure it's really ever gonna be in my comfort zone to do much more of that. I guess for this bow hold here, my point of contact is directly in the second joint of the index finger, and my thumb is on that metal piece, as you said. My pinky balances things, but it just kinda learned it along the way by itself, I think.
