I used a pallet knife and an alcohol burner to heat it. The pallet knife was worked into the joint and slowly opened the joint between the top and the ribs on either side of the neck. I stuck the pallet knife into the place where the shim will go. The shim needs to be about the thickness of the pallet knife to raise the bridge action about 4mm. The fiddle will get a new fingerboard.
