Hi Wayne...did you do a botton graft to this fiddle. You could go to the SoCalAssoc. of Violin makers..website: Scavm.com and see if there are any articles on button graphs and purfling repair. Also, if the neck was broken out then the neck block was broken as well and this is serious stuff. If you did not repair the neck block inside then the neck repair outside and the neck itself might come undone when you string it up to tension to play. You could email my husand Bob for some advice on neck block repairs...he's up in LA working at a violin shop and will be home on Friday...just send him an email and he will know of some good sites to send you to for the questions you have:
Bob Gravlin: bobsviolins@gmail.com He's president of the Association of SOCAL Violin makers and loves to help people who are trying to learn and do it the correct way. Stay tuned. Diane

Hi Diane, Thanks for all of your help! The 1897 Ruskauk you commented on had a broken neck block and after having to redo it several times I hope I have this one right. There is an article about making your own purfling on the Scavm website which will be helpful when I install the new purfling where it is missing. I will study the site some more for additional information and email your husband if I have any questions. Wayne
