Born in Ohio, live around the usa ( from south Tex to Toronto). After 7 years of college, worked in industry (chemical and physics research), taught 6th grade and some college classes (various), started making guitars in '68, moved to Toronto to start a folklore center, moved to the States to start the next of several shops... Eau Claire, in '70, South Bend, Ind. in '75, Chicago in '78. I started my current shop, J. Burda Guitars, in Berrien Springs, Mi. in '91. I live 5 miles from work, in an old growth woodland, from which I have obtained instrument tone wood since the mid '60s
