I am one of the best fiddle players ever, in my own mind... I play fiddle cause I love it, and it’s been good for me... They reckon music helps your brain by making connections, and it opens a new dimension in your life, it did for me... I picked up a fiddle in 2000 for new millennium, and just played along with music I liked, now I have over 6000 tunes covering anything and everything... I have always been interested in how different people play, those who take lessons, read the dots, practice hard and aim for perfection, as against those who play by ear, fortunately for me, I spose, I love playing by ear without putting in any effort at all, just getting enjoyment, either there is a tune there I can recognise or not, some music doesn’t make sense to me, and some music just unfolds and unravels like it’s on auto, it’s weird... The good old classics that a have a tune which sticks is what I like, even music I only ever heard as a kid is still stuck in there somehow... Anyway, I just play to enjoy and have a go, nothing more and I hope that other people can relax themselves into it as well, it is absolutely fantastic to do, and it’s not worth worrying about what it sounds like really... There’s always another song...
