Chet Bishop has been building and repairing violin-family instruments for 26 years. He works out of his home near Forest Grove, Oregon.
Like most luthiers, he would rather specialize in the making of new instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass, five string instruments), but repairs are part of the job, as well, and he enjoys seeing a damaged or dead instrument come back to life and sing again.
So far, Chet has built fifty instruments, including everything from a fractional-size violin to Double basses. He is currently specializing in five-string instruments, but also builds on commission as requested by customers.
He has repaired instruments that were in pieces (from a simple missing corner to a broken-off scroll or neck), as well as those simply needing minor repairs such as an open seam re-glued, and adjustments, such as a soundpost or bridge.
Nothing too small or too large. (YES we repair double basses, too!)
