I'm currently using Pirastro Tonicas, and I wish I could afford Dominants. Everything is higher priced for the viola than for the violin.

I know, I wanted dominants but they are nearly $100, I found a set of Pro Artes for $25.99 at samash down the road from me.

Please tell me how you like them.

BTW, my latest obsession with my viola is playing Unchained Melody, the Elvis Presley version.

well, they are better then the cheap steel strings that came on it. They have a much better tone than the steels but Im sure a better set would be nicer, but its about affordability right now

I understand affordability. My viola now has Pirastro Tonicas, which are good, but I have a personal preference for Dominants. I tried Vision strings once, but I really didn't like them and went back to the Tonicas quickly.

I'm still working on it, Barry.

I put Evah's on, as that was what the shop had on hand. I like them.

Someone else recommended Evahs. What are they like on the warm / bright continuum? How much do they cost?

Hey, Pauline. I believe they were 100 bucks. Hard for me to say what where they are on the tone continuem as so all I have to go on is my inexpensive instrument. All I know is that they made my instrument sound richer. I wonder if they are analogous to the violin strings. My string guide from shar lists the violin strings as being the most direct, as opposed to subtle of all the syntheticsand slightly more tectured as opposed to smooth than the Tonica'a.

It's hard to find words to describe sounds. However, I understand the meaning of $100. Thanks for your description, mudbug. I suspect that the sound of the strings is somewhat dependent on the quality of the instrument.
