I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the thumb of my bowing hand. I am struggling to come up with a comfortable bow hold. I have determined that the less the thumb does the better. The hardest thing is to find a comfortable position for the thumb, and find a way to prevent the thumb from being too inflexible. In my case, if the thumb doesn't flex, the wrist doesn't flex well either. And when the wrist doesn't flex, it is almost impossible to keep the bow parallel to the bridge.
This thumb problems causes multiple bowing problems.
