This is most likely a German made violin from the late 1800's or early 1900's. It is labelled Regat Rubus Petersburg 1850. I am fairly confident this is not the case. It has an interesting rounded corner shape. I had really hoped for a dark tone with minimal projection, but alas, my hopes were dashed. This sucker is loud! It has a gritty/boxy tone.
I found it in pretty excellent shape. The sound post had wandered and there was a crack under the tailpiece. My first though was to chuck a set of octave strings on it to wake it up a bit, but it was not needed. It was professionally repaired: sealed the crack, installed a new bridge and soundpost, new tuning pegs were recommended, so it has a set of Wittner finetune pegs now. This is coupled with a new set of Zyex string and a Fiddlerman E-string (I accidentally broke the Zyex E)
All in all, this is a pretty neat violin. I had hoped to be able to play it, but due to an old injury of a broken clavicle, it is not possible. I trying to get a chinrest to attach, including using a 3d printer to work out the attachment, but it failed. A standard sponge and rubber bands will work, but nothing beyond to my knowledge.
So this is a bit better in the hands of a fiddler rather than a violinist like me. Or at the least someone that does not need a chinrest and/or shoulder rest to the heigh that I require for comfort. I'd much rather see this being played than sitting with my collection of other instruments.
Will ship in a cool faux alligator case. This might be worth something to a collector.
