Took my Chanot fiddle to the diner last night to jam with my 90 yr. old friend, Jody .
I was playing fiddle tunes he said he didn't know but he sure kept up with the guitar very well !

I like the Chanot fiddle ... the unusual shape does not distract from the sound at all.

Typical diner background noise and people talking .... but I think our music is
important to get out an let folks hear it ..

I would have had alot more tunes to post but my Olympus voice recorder kept getting messed up by the guitar's bass notes... not sure how to fix that ?

Sounds great! I'd love to find a vintage Chanot body fiddle. And I think the shape might be a GOOD thing. I hate it when I run afoul of one of those corners with my bowhair, though I rarely do that anymore. Still annoying.

So many tunes. So little time!

I am trying to hatch a sinister plan to accidently divert my family to a southerly course when we head out of MO. next month

I hope the force is with me

( its usually not though)

I'll come up and hold a gun on ya', if that'll help. We'll meet at a pre-arranged place, with me looking like my normally crazed self, reeking of corn-whiskey, holding a double-barrel. I'll throw in some extra props, too. You just act brave, but comply with whatever I say do. We'll be southward 'fore ya' know it, playing music with a real hillbilly-band. As the picker's fall out in drunken stupors, y'all can make good your escape. Your family will have the story of a life-time to tell, time and again. And we'll be the only ones in on it.

The rest of y'all keep your mouth shut, a'ight?

Hey Micheal ,

If you look even closer .... you'll see that I have my rather stout ( ahem) Mother in Law on the right side of the tractor to act as a counter-balance for the missing wheel ... (always knew the ol' gal would come in handy one of these days) ....
the tractor's fixed now , she don't have to ride with me anymore ....

fine tune, and it's been a while since i had a diner on my rounds where i could play.
where'd you get this version of SJ? i really like it.

Feodosia - Posted - 05/28/2009:  06:43:13

Im glad you like it , Iron , thanks .... I started off learning the basic version of this tune and added my own stuff to it ... I have a tendency to jot down fiddle brainstorms with a pencil , so my versions of tunes are always evolving .. in fact, since I recorded this tune at the diner , I have made a few small changes to the last part of this tune, to smooth things out .... for the past few days, its been the banjo that's driving me nuts again, coming up with new tunings and string guages - LOL

ironworker - Posted - 05/28/2009:  09:06:01

hope tho meet you someday. sounds like we have a similar approach, and i'm always glad to hear folks talk about evolving tunes to their liking. the way it always has been, imho.

going to pick a re-fit fiddle up from a fine luthier,Don Leister (Richmond Va).
can't wait to hear the new sound! my favorite fiddle, too.
