Of course now I'm sure I'll stay part of the community but I just had to spread this out in case it hadn't been already.
I have a beautiful soundboard from the Yonder Mountain String Band at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis on 3-29-2002 and the "Opening Act" was
Tim O'Brien
Dirk Powell
Casey Driesen
This is the link that I posted on my site of them doing 3 fiddles on The Drunkards Hiccups or, Jack Of Diamonds.
When I listened to it again today felt I should share this.

Come on guys. The post verbal didn't come off right. I play everything else but a fiddle and that's what I want to do next. I feel privileged whenever I can find a group of people who can help you to learn.
I just joined this particular site at this time because I really wanted to share the tripple fiddles on the Jack Of Diamonds track, and keep up with some fiddle players.
Hell 20 views and no comments.
Let me know what you think.
I have another song that follows Jack. I call it the Seventh Song Jig, as I don't know the real name of the song and that was the seventh song in the set. It is also a 3 fiddle song.
Give me some feedback on Jack... and I will upload the other one to my website for you to listen to also.

The fact that there isn't anything else about your webpage except the player doesn't leave us with a lot of information about you, or give us any idea of your background, interests, etc.
You mentioned a "soundboard" which sounds to me like you may be a recording engineer or sound technician and gained access to the tape while recording them. I know it probably isn't a copy of something that will be coming out on CD, but the way I read the sentence left me with doubts.
Also, the "sound off" forum is supposed to be for members posting their own recordings for comments.
But, welcome to the Hangout, and I hope somebody who has time to listen to the link will comment.

I listened to the Jack O' Diamonds link....good stuff with 3 of the best fiddlers. I like Tim O'Brien..so talented!! Thanks for the post!

The song may pass as good music but it's not the "Jack of Diamonds" tune that I love.
I'm not sure what genre the song is from.
Half way through I felt that the "original" had been trodden upon.
it reminds me of some of the fingerstyle guitarists who can play the old blues so well
that they are almost *too* good at it, if you know what I mean.
OTOH, I have a hunch it may make a better impression with the BG folks.
Thanks for posting a link to it, it was interesting.

Thanks for the post. Kinda reminded me of a modern Nashville slant to the tune.
I found it interesting that someone who lists drums under their instruments, would also list cowbell. Most people would just list percussion.
Not that there is anything wrong with cowbell, ( timbaleros use them interestingly), It just brought to mind that Saturday Night Live skit with Will Farrell.![]()
Anyway, welcome to the site, and good luck with your fiddle pursuits.
texasfireball - Posted - 05/10/2009: 10:28:15
The Will Ferrell cowbell was what I was thinking when I wrote that.
I upped that song to my site to share with you. The rest of my site hasn't any fiddle playing on it by myself. I've been playing guitar for over thirty years and mandolin for a very short time. I figured I should teach myself to play that before I purchase and tackle the fiddle. I've known some awesome fiddle players in my time (Tim, Casey, Ryan Spearman...) and always wanted to learn.
I have been looking for a site to help me along the way and I found you guys.
Oh yes, that is a soundboard recording as back in the day I had a lot of connections and, by the way, Tim gave permission to post his recordings. That performance should never see it's way to a CD. I just figured I would post it as a gesture of good will as I don't think I've heard another three fiddle song.

Mark, remember this: the fiddlers you listed are some of the cream of the contemporary fiddle crop and the fiddle is a harsh mistress.
The chances of you reaching their LIFETIME of mastery is slim. But don't let that discourage you: a lot of us here on the Hangout are striving for something just out of reach. It is the nature of the beast.
Bill Monroe liked to play with 3 fiddles on occasion - you might find some recordings of that out there in the web world.
Also, check out Fiddle Fever - a band that has anywhere from 3 to 5 fiddles playing at once!

Sorry for the double post. I don't chime in too often, but do frequent the forum almost daily.
Mark - Thanks for the link. As stated, all these guys are among the best.
I also checked your home page. I thought your cover of "Willin" was quite good. Welcome to the forum...

Mark,
You might do what I did, and rent a fiddle for a few months, to see if you take to it, before you buy one. You also learn quite a lot that helps you in picking out your first fiddle. Might as well learn the basics on someone elses piece of crap junker.
I couldn't find any music on your site. Am I missing something?
texasfireball - Posted - 05/11/2009: 14:45:14
mudbug.
the address to my little site is
http://www.fortymilenhourgrandpa.com
There is a link to the music page on the main page.
Like I said it's a very primitive web site I just loved the name Forty Mile n' Hour Grandpa that we were using to describe our loose "band" and I wanted to secure that web domain... Yah, I know, who else would have snapped it up.
One of these days I'll get around to developing it but I work full time days the wife works part time evenings and I'm home myself with our 3 1/2 year old daughter and her 19 month old brother. Doesn't leave a bunch of extracurricular time.
I built a small studio in the basement when Norah was an infant and I still haven't' truly set it up and recorded in it.
Can't bring myself to be in the basement with headphones on and the Two Monsters with the run of the house.
