You click on the Download button and nothing happens?

The lesson is slow to come up, very slow, and when it does (at least on my computer) there's a text box about enabling Macromedia Flash. Finally you get a pdf which of course requires that you have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. I'm just making guesses at what the problem might be.

I saved a copy of the pdf on my computer. Maybe, if you keep having trouble, I could email it to you.

No, it's not for violin, nor for any one particular instrument. It's more of a music theory lesson in great detail. It teaches how to construct the various scales and modes. It's from the well-known Berklee College of Music.

This is a very cool program, and will totally surprise you!

The free download (to check it out includes most of the features, and one is where you see and or/ hear, and or practice reading/writing/hearng the modes.
Doesn't take long at all to download -
(hey I had windows 95 in the middle of the desert - and dial up, and I had no problem downloading

be sure to save it to your desktop - there's an icon so you can open it right up.

There is also an ear training section on it.

Like it says, no music experience required (if you are running from manuscript)

I checked this out a couple of years ago - you can set it to your own drills, or speed, or whatever it is you want to know - it is really easy to use -
It is a pretty Mega little program (although I can't afford the full versions)

But MAN! You want to get familiar with minors and modes?

Go for it!

Jen - trying to catch up with everything, between 21 tenants, some computer stuff needing downloads and renewals, and our big bowers jam (yearly) happening tomorrow! (camping, too! Yowie!)

It's the first time I am not going to work - and doing something all for me that isn't squeezed out into 15 minute time slots!

Just me, my fiddle, mandolin, and banjo, and about 300 other oldtime happy campers - plus the stairwell sisters, and a host of more string hotties!

Couchie - if you are going for the mibac one, just ask for the cd (eval copy) to be sent to you - takes about 2 days to get to ya - and you can install it or uninstall it at will -

The best source I know of for an extended discussion of modes and other scales, and the physics of music in general is Hermann Helmholtz "The Sensations of Tone." Dover Pubs. isbn 0-486-60753-4. It is a little dense in parts, but is thorough, believe me. One year for Xmas I gave a copy to each of the other guys in our band. They have yet to forgive me.

It was originally written in 1880 but there is nothing better, though there may be some works that are easier to understand.
