Thanks, Chirps! That's a good tune. What's its history?

This tune has a real different syncopation that I can't recall ever hearing in any other OT tune! When I look for new tunes to learn, I often look for these "hooks". Thanks for posting this 'un (ja, fer sure)!

Just call me Dwight.

Now if you all take out your Dear Old Illinois books and turn to page 304, tune #167: Ol Woodyard. The tune was collected 1/5/1977 from a fellow named Eldon Skaggs (1908-1988) of Stoy, IL. I don't recall ever meeting him- Garry Harrison recorded him.
I had a tape with some tunes on it some time ago and it had some of the tune titles mixed up. For the longest time I new this tune as "Unnamed Tune". My buddy, Joe Samojedny, started calling it Don't Spook the Herd (I like that title). Fairly recently I found out from Garry that the tune I was calling Ol Woodard's Tune (I wasn't sure of the spelling) was indeed a tune from Willie O. Ault (1894-1985, Hidalgo, IL) called Indian Corn (DOI #112, page 278, recorded 1/1/1978).
I recorded the tune along with Paul Tyler & Stephanie Coleman for a CD put out by the Illinois Humanities Council, Folksongs of Illinois Volume 2. See: http://www.prairie.org/Music for info. On that recording I gave it the wrong title- oops. Hopefully, everyone will read this message and now know... the rest of the story.
Your Obedient Servant,
Chirps
PS: Don't have DOI book or CDs? Get yourself to http://www.dearoldillinois.com/index.html and remedy that situation immediately.

So I did. 1st one under my name is it- actually entitled Indian Corn. The 2nd one is Four & Twenty Blackbirds Dancing on a Fawn Skin.
Thanks for the reminder.
No Mt. Airy this year- MT Fiddle Camp.
