Hey Guys

I stumbled upon this fiddler enthusiast forum and thought that someone here would recognize and name this old western fiddle tune which I've been looking for. Since I don't know the popular name of the tune, I don't know what to search for. However I do have a sample clip which I lifted from the movie Around the World in 80 Days (1956). The tune is played only once in the movie, but I've heard it other times in other places as well.

I've uploaded it to an index page. Please download and listen to it and tell me if you know the name of the tune!!

Any help appreciated!

What was the name of the movie?

Edited to say: I tried three different media-players, and none would open your file.

Music is found in the space between the notes -- in the silence between the chords. Get your spaces right, and you''ve got it. ~ Albert Greenfield

Hey M-D

Thanks for replying. I've uploaded a new video clip which you should be able to download and play with VLC Media player, or Windows Media Player with K-Lite Codec pack installed. Be sure to download the video first because the index webpage doesn't support streaming. The fiddler tune in the soundtrack starts when the lady looks out the train window.

Hope to hear from u!! Thanks.

That's not really a fiddle tune-
it's "Oh Susanna!" by Stephen Foster, probably his most popular song.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Foster
It's mentioned right after the section titled "Career".

It was a very well known song when I was growing up in the 1950's-
I'm sure nearly everybody in a 1950's movie audience would have recognized it
immediately.

Coincidentally Twelvefret just posted this link to Stephen Foster's tunes in another thread:

Thanks fiddlepogo!!! You're a star!!

I did not grow up in American culture, and so many things have passed me by which would be obvious to Americans.

Again, thanks for helping me identify this!!

Ciao

No problem. You're welcome.

But I'd be surprised if it was obvious to younger Americans...
they don't get that kind of music in the schools anymore, if I understand correctly.
