Here it is, warts and all, learned, more or less, by playing along with an FHO MP3 posting (Glenn). Banjo is tuned fCFCD capoed at second fret for key of G. It's a Chuck Lee custom, walnut, 11-inch rim, no tone ring.

Sounds great! Maybe my favorite tune.

What a great banjo sound. Never thought of using this tuning but it works really well. I feel their are a lot of G tunes that don't really work that well in open G and so I avoid playing them with my banjo player. This tuning and fDGCD seem to work much better, especially for notey G tunes. Nice arrangement.

Very good! I didn't hear any "warts". Nice bounce to it, very melodic, great tone.

Thanks, Glenn and to everyone else who posted comments.

It's a great tuning to play around with. It also works with tunes normally played in one of the C/D tunings (like gCGCD).

Play it with open strings in F or with a capo in G or A (Although capoing up to A makes a real soprano out of the Banjo.) I've put Arkansas Traveler in fCFCD and posted it on Sound Off in F.

The banjo took a back seat to my storytelling for 5-6 years and I lost much of what I had learned -- not just the tunes, but also technique. Now, I'm on a crusade to better integrate it with my storytelling, which means I need to get better at it and expand the repertoire.

I joined FHO to have access to some good fiddle playing and learn more tunes. So far, so good. Your playing is easy to follow because it is so clean. I'm working with several more MP3s from you and a number of other FHO members. It certainly beats watching television and keeps me off the streets at night. (I'm on Banjo Hangout, too, for the same reason. But learning from fiddle tunes is easier for me -- don't know why.)

Thanks to you all and keep up the good work.
