Following a neck injury, I searched for an easier way to hold my fiddle on my shoulder. I was inspired by Daniel Kurganov and his use of a magnet under his shirt, a magnet over his shirt connected to a rubber band to hold his violin on his shoulder. My experimentation with various magnets and configurations led to the invention of the Violin Pro-Hold. To learn more visit violinprohold.com/

Do you find it difficult or painful to hold your fiddle on your shoulder or find that it shifts or slips easily?

What have you tried to help hold your fiddle on your shoulder?

Have you tried certain shoulder rests, support straps or other devices? What has worked best for you?

I've used padded, full-on shoulder rests for many years now, and I continue to love 'em. I attach the thing onto the fiddle in the approximate place I think it ought to sit, and then I fine-tune the rest's position while the fiddle is on my shoulder until it puts my equally maniacally adjusted/maniacally chosen chin rest in its chosen spot beneath my jaw bone. BTW, I have three different fiddles, each with its own carefully-chosen and adjusted chin/shoulder rest combo. Yeah, all the combos put the fiddles in slightly different spots, but all the positions are marvelous, and the three different positions contribute to each fiddle's unique personality.

Isn't that close to where a pace maker is placed?

I've come across this page that gives links to a number of devices to help hold a violin or viola on your shoulder. jefftk.com/p/violin-supports

And here is a demonstration of the Aceto/Ithaca Strings Fiddle Strap system youtube.com/watch?v=a71UT-a5R2w

I initially revealed the Violin Pro-Hold at Violinist.com and Fiddle Hangout, but sales are slow. Those that purchased the product like it and have given positive feedback. Unfortunately, not enough players have been willing to try it out.

On a recent trip to Iowa to visit family, I demonstrated the Pro-Hold at 25 violin shops in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the Iowa City area violin shops. The reception was good and gave each store a Pro-Hold to share with their musicians and violin/viola/fiddle teachers, along with brochures. At about 1/2 of the stores, a violinist, violist, or fiddler tried it out on the spot. I am working with a university violin teacher to produce a demonstration video to help bring it alive for visitors to our website or on social media.

If anyone at Fiddle Hangout has marketing ideas please contact me at violinprohold@gmail.com or call 580-344-1736. All ideas are welcome. I'm presently revealing the Pro-Hold on violin related Facebook groups.

I’m not sure I’d want a magnet tugging on my t shirt while I play, but if it works for you, that’s awesome. I’ve been dealing with my fiddle sliding down for years, so maybe I should rethink my setup. spendbillmoney.com

Contact Dave Reiner the guy who runs FiddleHell. He can put you in touch with some of the vendors there. One of them might take some of your invention on consignment. 200+ fiddlers in one place sounds like a good test of the products viability.

Loose light weight shirts may cause the Pro-Hold and your instrument to easily shift. A heavier form-fitting shirt, like a polo shirt or shirt with a collar, will better maintain it in a stable position. Even a new, heavier weight t-shirt with a tight neck band has worked.

Thanks Wrench13 - I wish I lived closer and could easily attend the Fiddle Hell. I will try to get in touch with Dave Reiner. Thanks for the suggestion.
