Why am I getting notifications to topics that I have not subscribed to? There is no opportunity to 'subscribe' or to "unsubscribe'... as is usually offered.. Can anyone explain this? I Never subscribe to an entire forum but am getting notifications!!!

buckhenry - Posted - 03/20/2025:  16:11:12

I found this annoying also and I couldn't find any settings to unsubscribe, So I diverted the notifications to an mail box I hardly ever use...

Hmm so have you tried looking in your Profile settings?

- Look for your profile image/name and click on the Gear icon beside it.

- Choose "Messaging & Notifications".

- Look over the settings you have in there? I don't get notifications unless somebody quotes/replies to me, and my settings look like this...

And sorry for the ginormous image! laugh

I haven't figured out how to size the images in a post!

THis thing happens  just infrequently.. It has nothing to do with my profile ...

Nice size image - maes t easy to read! My settings look like NCnotes, and if I click the link "View/manage your forum subscriptions" it says "No subscriptions found."
You probably know, but the "Subscribe/Unsubscribe" button is at the bottom of the "Quick Reply" box, as well as in the heading of the topic. Its easy to check that one by accident.

Yeah, that's the annoying part......as if I wont see them next time I login....

Have you looked at the bottom of the notification emails? We always include info on how to unsubscribe when you've subscribed to a particular forum or topic...

TuneWeaver - Posted - 03/23/2025:  15:22:41

On the recent "bobby hicks passes'' topic I'm given the opportunity to unsubscribe to the ENTIRE Forum! I just want to unsubscribe to the specific topic that is sending me unsolicited posts, not the entire forum..

TuneWeaver - Posted - 04/25/2025:  14:58:08

OK...In a recent topic about ME not being able to log in..... Eventually, with doing NOTHING, the problem resolved itself...So Obviously, the problem was either the Hangout, My computer, my browser, or something in the cloud... Lately, I've NOT been receiving unwanted notifications.. When I was in 'electronics', there was always the concept of a 'ghost' or 'mouse' in the system. ...that is, something virtually unexplainable..This could be one of those things..!?

buckhenry - Posted - 04/26/2025:  19:46:29

Have you looked at the bottom of the notification emails?

It seems we need to unsubscribe to every topic we reply too.

How do we unsubscribe from all notifications..?

schlange - Posted - 04/28/2025:  07:48:04

We don't automatically subscribe anyone to anything. Ever. All hell would break loose if we did, trust me.

There's a "Subscribe to this topic" checkbox beneath the reply composer. If you click that, you'll be subscribed to the topic.

Or if you click "Subscribe" at the top of a forum, you'll be subscribed to the whole forum.

If you've subscribed to a topic or forum, it's because you clicked to do so. And you can always click the link at the bottom of those notification emails in order to unsubscribe.

It is easy to accidentally hit the subscribe button of you use a mobile platform. I do it about once a week laugh there is also the very rare occasion I accidentally hit an ad because of the was they are designed to mimic the "post reply" button (not this site's doing) I Think that happens to Peggy regularly because she always mentions losing what she was about to post. ?????

TuneWeaver - Posted - 04/28/2025:  12:12:29

Here is an example..regarding the "why do I forget tunes....." Both before and after the posts, I'm given the opportunity to click on "Subscribe"... which implies I'm NOT subscribed...then why am I getting the notifications in my EMail.... I went to the MY SUBSCRIPTIONS site on the Hangout and see that the topic is NOT one of my subscriptions!!! Again, I'm getting notifications..... Very strange...

buckhenry - Posted - 04/28/2025:  16:49:27

Hey Lee, have you selected 'WEB ONLY' in your notifications settings. I think this may do the trick, I haven't received any mail since I selected this a few days ago.

What does the bottom of the email notification you received say?

TuneWeaver - Posted - 05/29/2025:  15:49:46

OK, thanks.. problem solved.. but......(always a but)... Why is this happening in the first place?? any idea?

ChickenMan - Posted - 07/02/2025:  09:56:11

Once you are subscribed, (I just did a test) the unsubscribe is both at the bottom of the plain text and rich text comment box, as well as the bottom of the topic thread. I took a pic but don't want to convert it to jpeg. Message me if you need an example.

My guess is you accidentally clicked the box, it is very easy to do on mobile device, not sure about computer. I've done it dozens of times, but usually catch it before I am completely done with the topic.

Doesn't mean you didn't. The first several times I did it I swore I didn't, but when I caught myself it dawned on me, and I caught there after. It happens.

So we get notification every time some one replies to a topic that we replied to.

When we reply we have to immediately go to ....View/manage your forum subscriptions... to stop the notifications. Is that right.?

Is there an unsubscribe button that keeps us permanently unsubscribed..?

I received 17 emails for the same topic....HUMPH

pete_fiddle - Posted - 07/31/2025:  14:39:17

i only get notifications if someone quotes me...... Fair enough for me.

DougD - Posted - 07/31/2025:  15:00:38

Same here, or if someone replies directly to my "handle."

buckhenry - Posted - 07/31/2025:  19:17:33

I selected......Web only: notifications only show up in the notification section on the website.

Does this mean email notifications are NOT sent. ?

ChickenMan - Posted - 08/04/2025:  18:04:50

There must be a setting because I ONLY get notifications if I subscribe.
