Hello. Thank you for adding me to the Hangout. I'm a historian and writer (although the violin was my first instrument) and am looking for any information on Edouard Schmitt/Schmidt violins (1855-1948). I've run across his name while researching my biography of Orville H. Gibson.
He has caught my attention enough to want to write an article about him. I've seen a post or two by "mysteryfiddles" who owned one. I'm looking for first hand descriptions and hopefully photos of his work.
Thank you for any information available.

I have one of his violins that was made in 1905. I've included 3 photos for you.

Ok, I'm new here. Where are the photos? Interesting that yours is a 1905. He worked for Gibson in 1904/1905. He sold his violins in Kalamazoo under the name Schmitt. Thanks, Joyce.
