Found this on FB, and need to get a 3/4 for my daughter. seems decent and pretty. From my research, the violin seems to be under the brand Haocheng, hand made using european wood. retail at $1600usd. I can get for around $250usd. Do you think its worth it, have you heard of this brand, any big concern being chinese made?

Chinese violin making has gone thru a revolution in the last 20 years. Yes, they still make a lot of VSO's, real crap, but there are some really good makers there too. My main fiddle for 9 or so years was a beautiful China made one, sounds very good, still have it as a second gigging fiddle.

This one does have a 1 pc nicely flamed back and f-holes seem well done. For $250 not a bad deal IMHO.

The price is very reasonable for a used violin in good condition. Although damage isn't immediately obvious in the pictures, look thoroughly before buying. Ignore the "handmade" claim--no one is making violins anymore without machinery in this range, especially not in Chinese factories. Although a lot of work WAS done by hand in Chinese factories when they were emerging as a producer of mass violins, this was more because it was cheaper then to hire more laborers to handle single tasks than to buy machinery. This has changed considerably since then and now far less hand-work is done. But at the low end of the market, this doesn't really matter as long as a decent product comes out.

Keep in mind that you'll likely need a better setup to get the most out of it, but at $250+setup, that's not a bad deal. If you eventually trade it in or sell it, you might get about $250 back for it, assuming that you keep it pristine. That's not too bad.
