Daniels_11 - Posted - 11/01/2023:  11:01:26

Hello all,

More than half a lifetime ago I was pretty involved in the fiddle scene in Idaho. At that time I purchased a fiddle from Frank Daniels. It was built in October of 1997, it is #11 and it won first place for tone in a fiddle makers competition that year.

As things go, I haven't been involved or even touched a fiddle in close to 20 years now, that entire time #11 has just been sitting in a case with no one to play it. It is a very nice fiddle and has some history to it as Mr. Daniels first contest winning fiddle. I am looking to sell it now so someone can make good use of it rather than keeping it in the case for another 20 years.

I am wondering what the market is like for Frank Daniels fiddles, what this one might be worth, where to get it appraised and where to sell it? Appreciate any help you all can give.

Thanks

Here is an old listing for one of his instruments from this website:

If yours is in pristine condition and set up properly, you may be able to ask a similar price. However, the violin market is not an easy one, and you can’t know when it will sell. If you look through the classified ads on this site, you’ll get an idea of how the listings are written and what the instruments look like. If the maker indeed has enough cache to attract players who like his instruments, you might have a decent chance. Set your price, not based on how much you hope to make, but on how little you can justify taking, for a better chance. Since the maker won awards for making in Arizona, you might also consider getting in touch with shops in the area in case they’re interested.

I can't really answer your question, but I've got a Frank's also, #44, made in Feb. 2000. He had quite a following in the bluegrass and contest scenes. Jeremy Garrett had/has his #43, and a bunch of those Cherryholmes kids, now adults, were also playing them. He had a pretty active website with lots of info but last time I checked, it was gone and I couldn't find anything.
