I recently received an email from International Violin offering a set of strings for $39.50. It cost another $7.50 for shipping, handling and insurance. I could not find the same set on Amazon for a lesser price, so I went ahead and purchased this set. With the exception of an occasional set of Zyex strings, I have used Helicore for many years after being talked into trying them from my friend, Bobby Hicks (he uses heavies) way back when I played acoustic bass for him in New York State at the NYS Fiddler's Hall of Fame.
Anyway, I could not be any happier with an E string than the Kaplan non-whistling aluminum wound medium tension string. It behaves so well during string crossings. Absolutely no wolf sounds at all. And it has a beautiful tone that is so much clearer than the standard E that comes in the 310 set.
I think I'll outfit my other fiddles the same way. I'm impressed.

It's been a minute since I bought strings. I was thinking, "that seems like a bit more than I paid last time I bought Helicores." But then I looked at my usual string vendor and it appears the price has risen $20 since I last bought t that brand - quite a bit more! Your price is only about $10 more with shipping.
I'm now going to check the price on my preferred strings...
