I led the congregation with my guitar buddy today, cause the pianer was out camping. When I said to turn to 697, and jokingly said we'll sing "God Save the King," I was met with blank stares. I did a little explanation, but no one got it until the last verse wrapped up with the lyrics, "great God, our King."
What a beautiful melody. Simple 2-chord 3/4 time. And no offense intended to our UK brethren; it's just an interesting rewriting. Never really noticed it until I watched the coronation of King Charles couple months ago, in which the gathering sang it in unison.
