So wondering if Ketch from Old Crow M. Show tunes down a step? I think he is playing Steel Strings..Wish I knew what he uses. He has a really rich tone. Any ideas or info appreciated.

I want to follow this one close. Always been a fan of him. The year I played Delfest, we had access to the main stage and while Old Crow was shredding, we were standing beside his back stage fiddle case on wheels, there was about 20 plus fiddles lined up. Maybe more. Had I knew I'd take up the fiddle, I would have taken pics but wow...like the guys you see in arenas with the guitars lined up, these were all fiddles...carry on. :)

I believe that Ketch Secor plays Wagon Wheel in the alt tuning AEAE, maybe that's what you're hearing.

I'd bet money he uses lots of tunings, especially if he travels with that many fiddles. Probably uses Prim or Helicore strings as so many of his peers do. His tone has more to do with him and his bow arm than the strings he uses.

Are Helicores good strings to cross tune up?  AEAE?
