I've posted another Civil War era song on my home page. Although published near the end of the war, in January 1865, it quickly became one of the most popular tunes among Union troops. That is among all except Gen. Sherman for whom it was written. After hearing 205 bands and fife & drum corps play it at the grand victory parade, he swore that he would never attend another event where the tune was played. He kept his promise and the only other time it was played in his presance, was at his funeral.

Geez - this seems kind of mean-spirited.
Who arranged his funeral - his wife?
BTW, thanks for putting that tune up. It's been on my list to learn for some time - and nice job fiddling it.
