GADS! OTJ points out that it is 8 more miles to louisville, which I play if I happen to be around Bluegrassers - - the version I learned way back (by ear) in the depths of time simply doesn't have the chorus, and I have been playing the two seperately for years, without ever "clicking" on it.

I wouldn't say it's an exact fit to the tune, but it's pretty close. I think it's way over-simplified in your MIDI version to the point that part of the melody (of the verse) has been omitted. But that's probably what it is.

It sounds a whole lot like the song "The Drunken Scotsman" with a bit of variation. If it sounds like something called "8 miles to Louisville", then those two pieces of music must be very related.

LOL! I'll have to look that up - a vocal version of the drunken scotsman I know is quite badly bawdy!!! - and of course the (singing) tune's different -

So I have to check this one out too -

As the tune is simplistic (I learned it when I was about 9, I think, at a girl scout camp)
I still marvel at those wee things, like earwax, that suddenly fall out of your memory - when you haven't played them for awhile. (like at 2am when I was trying to remember something simple for a student)

In the last verse, which I can't quite recall, the Scotsman awakens to Nature's Call,
He lifts his kilt and stares in surprise (at the ribbon), and then exclaims:
"My friend, I don't know where you been, but I see you won first prize!"



Is that the song you refer to?

I have never heard Eight More Miles to Louisville. I hear the Drunken Scotsman in the tune in question, but it's just a little off, and the center part is different.

Oy! Yes the drunken scotsman, with the companion tune - (gotta find the lyrics - goes as a hornpipe to it - called a lady called for her wee tam -
