Hi Everyone,
This has been a long time coming, but I'm happy to announce that next week we'll be launching a redesigned Fiddle Hangout.
You can see and use the new site right now at dev.fiddlehangout.com.
The new site is much more powerful and flexible when it comes to mobile devices, which is very important in today's world.
Apart from this mobile responsiveness the new site is functionally very similar to the live site, although it's been given a facelift. Behind the scenes, though, this is a big change which lays the groundwork for powerful new features to come. Once the new site launches, we'll start launching lots of new features including member tagging in posts, real-time PM chatting, easier uploads and the use of secure SSL throughout the site.
Try the new site out and let me know what you think! It's a work in progress, and we're still fine-tuning it... but the plan is to take the new design live tomorrow or the next day. The new site is using the exact same data as the live site, so you can use the new site right now to post on the forum, browse classifieds, etc, and your changes will be reflected across both versions of the site.
If you come across any issues on the new site, or just want to comment on it, please post below. Like I said, we're shooting to take it live by Wednesday, Sept 13.
Stay tuned!

OK, trying the enlarged type for this reply, but I doubt it will work for reading posts. The default really needs to be bigger, especially on the desk-top version. Also, I notice it is still brown on tan, which is extremely hard to see with these poor eyes.
Black type on white background is best!

Made my comments on the new site. Not really happy with the color scheme.
amwildman - Posted - 09/11/2017: 12:40:54
The post preview function needs tweaked. On Android, it's black text on dark blue background. Almost unreadable.
ChickenMan - Posted - 09/12/2017: 05:21:18
Bigger thumbnails for videos perhaps?
It will take some adjustments, I'm so used to the color scheme and layout of this site. Thanks Eric!

Yeah, we're fixing this today!

The type still needs to be darker
and bigger! At least 18 point.
This tiny print is next to impossible to see, even on a 27" monitor and with my reading glasses.

The ckeditor didn't load in Firefox 55.0.2 on (Debian Linux OS) - but seems to work using Chrome.
Personally I liked the much of the old look better - smaller font size - and main window wider.
amwildman - Posted - 09/12/2017: 19:41:34
I can only reply in Plain Text. The Rich text option is present, but no text box is forming so I can't type anything. No smileys or font options anywhere. Maybe some plugin on my end needs updated?
Chrome on Windows 10

Thank you Thank you.
Wow the return key even works on a Mac !!
Very easy on the eyes.

The ckeditor.js is working for me now in Firefox. It seemed to have problem with finding the stored script/skin; loading this seems to have fixed it? - fiddlehangout.com/global/ckedi...s?t=G4CD.
edit: I now notice that my quoted text doesn't seem to display correct font size?

Tobus - Posted - 09/13/2017: 05:37:20
I'm having the same problem as amwildman. I can only reply with Plain Text. The Rich Text function doesn't load any of the buttons, and it won't even give me a text field to type in. The same happens when I try to quote a post for a reply: there is no way to actually type a reply. So my only option is to use Plain Text. (I'm on Firefox 55.0.3.)
*EDITED TO ADD:
OK, I found the problem and it's fixed now. If you can't reply to a topic or use Rich Text, it's because you need to clear the cache in your browser. Your browser is still trying to use old saved info from the previous site version, and it's conflicting with the new site info. So clear the cache, and suddenly Rich Text will work.

Thanks for finding that, Tobus. I was having the same problem when the new site went liv and last night I routinely cleared the caches in all my apps, and this morning it was working.
Now at least I can post about some of the other problems!
gapbob - Posted - 09/14/2017: 11:34:27
The option to go to the last post is gone. Would be nice to have a setting where I could choose that the most recent comment was on top, so it showed first if I open a topic or forum. (Reverse order)
Clicking on the time above the last poster doesn't take me anywhere useful, just to a top-level view of the forums.

amwildman - Posted - 09/14/2017: 11:47:02
Click on the name of the last poster and it takes you to the last post. I agree that some clarity needs to be added here.
schlange - Posted - 09/14/2017: 12:07:08
Just fixed it so the "last post" links actually take you to the last post! :-)
gapbob - Posted - 09/14/2017: 14:20:03
Not everywhere, i use 'active topics' quite a bit, and that link does not work for the most recent post.

Now when I click on the title of the thread, it automatically takes me to the last post... even if I've never opened the thread prior.

Whoops. Fixed!

I like clicking the place at the head of a topic where I can go straight to the most recent poster so I don't have to scroll through the whole thread. But with the new site that is not working. It takes me somewhere irrelevant. I am using a desktop computer.

Brian has a point. I think wether it's and old pc or a phone. It should still work
fujers - Posted - 09/15/2017: 17:48:57
You know what I don't like about the new site. It doesn't fill like your home. With the old colors the way it worked and the warmth of the site is what caught my attention.
I understand the changes though..nothing can stay the same forever..I get that. The new site is kinda hard to use..I guess because it's new..everything is hard at first.. like the fiddle. Now if I practice..I can get it right? Well if practice is all I need..I'll practice. Jerry

OK, so I'm a little backwards, but I always go to "Active Topics" starting with the bottom listing and working my way up. It turns out that, with the new site, if there is only one new topic in a given forum, that's fine. If there are two or more, then I am taken to a listing of new topics under different forums. Having actually clicked on the "Last Poster" elsewhere than the first listing, I may or may not see the "Last Poster" that I clicked on. I will see the "Last Poster(s)" of earlier listings.
Is this clear as mud? Basically, I click on one "Last Poster" and get others instead.
boxbow - Posted - 09/16/2017: 06:42:24
This will be a little confusing. “Other Fiddle-Related Topics” is used as a header for a Forum and also for a, I don’t know, call it a sub-forum. I clicked on “Active Topics” and saw a complete listing of all actives subdivided by their respective forums. Under “Other Fiddle-Related Topics/Other Fiddle-Related Topics” I found the following…
What does it mean to be a downbeat fiddler? Ghp
Forced marriage Illinois fiddler
Wiping down strings dan gellert
If I click on Illinois Fiddler I arrive at a page entitled “Other Fiddle-Related Topics,” highlighting some, not all, recent posts. None are “Forced Marriage.” “Other Fiddle-Related Topics/Other Fiddle-Related Topics” is among the highlighted sub-forums. It credits “ghp” as the latest poster within that sub-forum. If I click on “ghp,” it goes to “What Does It mean to be a Downbeat Fiddler.” I can only click on “Forced Marriage” from here by backtracking to “Other Fiddle-Related Topics” first. This is the full listing for topics under the heading of “Other Fiddle-Related Topics/Other Fiddle-Related Topics.” From that page, I can click on Illinois Fiddler and arrive at the last post.
What this means is, I cannot go directly to the latest post from “Active Topics” unless it is the first listed as such. Any other latest post from "Active Topics" can only be arrived at by going from the full directory at the outset.
My best method is to click on "Active Topics" and click on individual topics. If it's a lot of replies, then I tab to the end and work my way back up until the dates are recent, then start working my way back down.
So, why bother with the "Most Recent Post" function at all? File it under Department of Redundancy Department.

We need a new sound man the MP3's are not coming up. I have a large system and the MP3s look like they are loading but not. I can see the bars that says it's loading and nothing. I reload the song and nothing. I tried re booting and still the same problem. Does anyone else have this problem. Jerry
amwildman - Posted - 09/16/2017: 18:09:38
Nope. MP3s are working flawlessly for me for the fist time in 9 years.
martynspeck - Posted - 09/17/2017: 17:11:03
No problems with MP3s. Upgrade your browser version and see if it works.

Page layout issues in Android now. Everything is scrunched up in a sub-1 inch column on the right.

I like that the link to my profile etc is now on the upper left, but when I start to scroll down, it now disappears off of the top of the screen.
I also appreciate that the right side of the screen has gone away and I have 7/8ths of the screen width devoted to the posts.
iMac & Chrome.

Is there any way to get a 'quote post' function added for Android?

Can't see the profiles of some of my friends. Says 'profile only visible to members' even when I'm logged in.

It's already there--it's the little "reply with quote" icon at the bottom-right of any post.

That's odd. You may try clearing your browser cookies and signing in again. Sounds like something is corrupted.

Nope! Just cleared browser history and it still has the BHO icon - at least it's better than the old "YouTube" image.
